Artistic Approach Christian Burger’s artistic purpose is to reveal in his works the different aspects of nature in their original guise. Nature, in her turn, provides him with his raw materials. Nature dominates Christian’s world and is his driving force: he breathes, observes, touches and smells nature in the course of his daily life, and is continually surprised by her biological diversity and the beauty her forms. He draws his inspiration from this environment which he loves so much, and seeks to communicate his passion by portraying in his art hisvision of nature’s wild and mysterious depths. Whether in animal or abstract form, in stone or in wood, each of his sculptures captures an image of this world and draws our gaze to the very essence of his subject. The fleeting mimetic pose of a lizard on a slab of green serpentine; the imposing and long-remembered bulk of a carthorse; or the wise, human-like gaze of a barn owl; does not each of these bring a moment of intimate and astonishing contact with the animal world? The play of light upon the differently textured surfaces of a slab of wrinkled gneiss, a block of polished serpentine or striated metamorphic rock; these sculptures in stone connect us, for their part, to the mineral world. At the same time, the sculptures are intended to bear witness to the exceptional beauty of the natural world, to raise public awareness and to encourage us to take more care of our environment in the course of our daily lives. For we are all a part of this world, this Earth which nourishes us like a mother, and carries us on our journey through the universe.
